- Scene Context: Presence of pornographic materials, mirrors (to observe the act), partial nudity, or female clothing on a male victim (cross-dressing is common in these cases).
- Protective Measures: Padding (towels, foam, or padding under the ligature) is frequently present to prevent obvious neck markings and discomfort.
- Solitary Environment: The setting is almost exclusively private and secured from the inside (e.g., locked bedroom or bathroom).
