As of January 1, 2004, the Faculty of Medicine was separated from the Karl-Franzens Universität Graz and became the Medical UniAs of January 1, 2004, the Faculty of Medicine was separated from the Leopold-Franzen-Universität Innsbruck and became the Medical University of Innsbruck (Medizinische Universität Innsbruck). Instruction at the new university began October 1, 2004.
