1. Pathophysiology
Toxic/nutritional amblyopia refers to a group of bilateral, usually symmetric, optic neuropathies characterized by insidious vision loss. It results from mitochondrial dysfunction in the papillomacular bundle of the optic nerve, which is highly metabolically active and susceptible to toxins and nutrient deficiencies.
