The MMR vaccine is a live attenuated viral vaccine used to provide long-term protection against three highly contagious childhood diseases.

2. High-Yield Clinical Pearls

  • Contraindications: Pregnancy, severe immunocompromise (e.g., untreated HIV/AIDS, chemotherapy), and history of anaphylaxis to components (neomycin/gelatin).
  • Storage: Highly sensitive to heat and light; must be stored in the dark at 2–8°C. Once reconstituted, it must be used immediately (or within 4 hours).
  • Post-Exposure Prophylaxis: Can be used for measles control if given within 72 hours of exposure to non-immune contacts.
