Ovarian Cancer: NEET PG Exam High-Yield Summary

1. The “Big Three” High-Yield Areas

Category High-Yield Point
Screening NO population screening is recommended. High-risk (BRCA) individuals get TVS + CA-125.
Histopathology Serous Cystadenocarcinoma is the most common. Look for Psammoma bodies.
Markers CA-125: Best for monitoring. AFP/Beta-hCG: Elevated in Germ Cell tumors.

2. Commonly Tested NEET PG Concepts

  • Krukenberg Tumor: Metastatic ovarian cancer, typically from a gastric primary.
    • Features: Signet ring cells, bilateral involvement.
  • Dysgerminoma: The most common malignant germ cell tumor.
    • Equivalent to testicular seminoma. Marker: LDH.
  • Endodermal Sinus Tumor: Presence of Schiller-Duval bodies.
    • Marker: AFP.
  • Staging: FIGO staging is surgically determined. Stage I (confined to the ovary), Stage II (pelvic extension), Stage III (peritoneal spread outside the pelvis), Stage IV (distant metastasis).
  • Management: Standard is Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) + Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy (BSO) + Omentectomy.
