The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM): The Backbone of Rural Health

The ANM is the most critical female health functionary posted at the Sub-Centre (Health and Wellness Centre). She acts as the link between the clinical services of the PHC and the community.

Collaboration in the Field

  • Supervision: The ANM supervises ASHA workers in her area, ensuring they are properly equipped and trained.
  • Reporting: She is responsible for submitting monthly reports on maternal and child health performance to the Medical Officer at the PHC.
  • Outreach: Conducts field visits to households to ensure follow-up of newborns and postpartum mothers.
