For instance, if 300 mg of a dye is injected intravenously and the concentration of the dye in the blood at equilibrium is 0.05 mg/mL, the volume of the compartment is calculated as:
V=300 mg/0.05 mg/mL
=6,000 mL
Thus, the volume of the compartment is 6,000 mL, and this is referred to as the Volume of Distribution (VOD).
