U01.21.003 Drug Clearance (CL)

Learning Objective:
Understand and apply the formula for drug clearance (CL), which relates the rate of drug elimination to plasma concentration and the elimination constant.

Formulas:

CL = frac{text{Rate of elimination of drug}}{text{Plasma drug concentration}}

CL = V_d times K_e

(where K_e is the elimination constant)

Example:

Given:
V_d = 40 text{ L}
K_e = 0.1 text{ h}^{-1}

CL = 40 times 0.1 = 4 text{ L/h}

Answer: Clearance = 4 L/h
