Staphylococcus saprophyticus

  • Characteristics: Gram-positive cocci in clusters; catalase-positive, coagulase-negative, urease-positive; novobiocin-resistant.

  • Habitat: Normal microbiota of the female genital tract and perineum.

  • Clinical Significance: The Second most common cause of uncomplicated urinary tract infections in young females (after Escherichia coli).
