Learning Objective
After completing this section, learners will be able to identify atrial fibrillation on ECG, describe its uncoordinated atrial conduction, and differentiate it from other supraventricular arrhythmias.
Activity
Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
- Mechanism: Uncoordinated atrial conduction → no effective atrial contraction
- ECG Characteristics:
- No discernible P waves
- Irregularly irregular rhythm (unsteady)
- QRS complexes are typically normal in width unless there is a bundle branch block
