Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis (HPG Axis)

• The HPG axis serves as the central regulatory system for reproductive function.
• Key components: Hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and gonads (ovaries and testes).
• Regulation of hormone secretion: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus stimulates the release of gonadotropins (FSH and LH) from the pituitary gland.

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

• Secreted by the anterior pituitary gland.
• Stimulates follicular growth and development in females.
• Promotes spermatogenesis in males.

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Estrogen

Testosterone
